Prius Solar Flowers

Advertising that actually helped people

role: copywriter

THE CHALLENGE

Feature advertising

One of the innovative new features of the 2007 Prius was a solar panel on the roof that powered a fan to keep the car interior cool. It was neat, but still a bit complex, and was just one feature of an entire car launch.

THE SOLUTION

Bring the tech to the people

We came up with the idea to generate buzz for the feature by bringing it to life in public spaces in a way that added beauty and utility. Giant flower sculptures with solar panels on the petals generated energy to power charging stations and wifi for passersby. At night they would light up, all with help from the sun. The installation toured six major US cities as part of the Prius launch campaign.

RESULTS

$18 Million in PR

We knew these things were pretty awesome, but we could never have dreamed that they would earn nearly $18 million worth of PR and that people would be talking about them enough for google to return over two million search results.
